Hi! I am Amaya, an illustrator focused on the children's and youth market.
Illustration has been inherent to me for as long as I remember. I believe illustration saved me from something, although I am not completely sure about what it was. I am still working on it with my psychoanalyst.
I thoroughly enjoy creating characters and have a strong penchant for details. Some people tell me that I become completely silent when I draw. In my creations you will find a brushstroke of humor, although in real life I tend to be a bit melodramatic.
When I talk about my family, I often paraphrase Miguel de Cervantes: “In all houses, they cook beans; and in mine, cauldrons” (Don Quixote II 13). We are three sisters, and I am the middle one. At home, I always stood out for being the first to finish the chocolate bars. I come from a matriarchy: my mother was widowed when we were children, so while she grew professionally, I drew in her absence. Every day, when my mother came home, she found a stack of pages on her table.

My first illustrated album, "Too Many Pigs in the Pool," won the Moonbeam Golden Medal Award in 2022.
You can browse some of the educational projects I have illustrated in Edelvives, Anaya, Santillana, Vox Dictionary, Larousse, and McGraw-Hill publishers. My work in fiction books is also published both nationally and internationally by the following publishers: Sleeping Bear Press, Cherry Lake Publishing Group, Oxford University Press, Alfaguara, Penguin Random House, Beascoa, Algar, Osmo, and Mondadori.

I draw inspiration from illustrators like Peter Arno, Iván Bilibin, Taiyo Matsumoto, and Edward Gorey. As a child, I enjoyed reading “James and the Giant Peach” by Roald Dahl, and among the illustrations that left a lasting impression on me is the book “Hansel and Gretel” illustrated by Anthony Browne. One of my favorite songs nowadays is “This Must Be the Place” by Talking Heads.
